Bruce A. Block is a film producer[1], author [2]and visual consultant whose career spans 30+ years. Block attended Lincoln College[3] in Lincoln, Illinois (he received his associates degree), then transferred to Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA for his Bachelor's Degree and received his M.F.A. from USC Film School. In 1977, Block began teaching a course on the visual aspects of film making as an adjunct professor at USC Film School. In 2001, Block's book, based on his class, entitled The Visual Story: Seeing the Structure of Film, TV and New Media, was published [4]. It has since gone into a second edition. [5]
Block began work as a Filmic and Visual Consultant on such films as Irreconcilable Differences (1984) and Bachelor Party (1984)[6]. He has gone on to be a consultant for films such as Stuart Little (1999), As Good As It Gets (1997) and Spanglish (2004). As a film producer, Block has produced and co-produced such films as The Holiday (2006), Something's Gotta Give (2003), What Women Want (2000), Disney's The Parent Trap (1998), Father of the Bride (1991) and Father of the Bride II (1995)[7]. For the stage, Block's credits include directing the play BIMBO, co-written by American playwright Heidi Boren, which received its premiere at the Lee Strasberg Theatre in Los Angeles. [8] [9]
In 2007, Block was featured in an on-camera interview, discussing visual style, for the 40th Anniversary DVD release of the film The Graduate. Block's audio commentary as a film historian is also featured in the 2008 Collector's Edition DVD of the classic 1960 film The Apartment.
