Thanks for OLPC split!

Thanks for the OLPC split, it was long overdue. I've been fixing redirects so XO HW/SW stuff goes to the OLPC XO-1 article. --IanOsgood 22:48, 7 October 2007 (UTC) (P.S. another animutation fan...)[reply]

Real life barnstar

I have edited your image, of the Real Life Barnstar, simply by making it transparent. I am unsure if you want to upload this or use this instead, I am giving you the option. Hpfan9374 (talk) 23:52, 12 December 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Great. Glad to be of assistance. Hpfan9374 (talk) 20:21, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Philly Meetup 6

Thanks, but Ill go along with what anybody suggests. Im not that good in knowing what locations to go to, despite me usually going to Philly once every few months for whatever I need to do, but if something sounds good, or if something is suggested that I have been to before, and sounds good, I will vouch for it. Sockpuppet accusations

(Suspected sockpuppet template removed)--TexasDex 05:14, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Same post, same interest, same computer.

So obvious.

—Preceding unsigned comment added by Alfred Legrand (talkcontribs) 02:28, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Although this petty and vindictive accusation really doesn't deserve it, I will address and disprove it. Yes, we do often edit from the same IP address. I doubt that you actually know for a fact that we often share IPs, it's more likely a lucky guess based on the statement on ImmortalGoddezz's talk page. But it is correct, because I use a home router to share internet between the computers in this apartment. However your accusation is otherwise unfounded because:
  • Age: Sockpuppets are almost always created briefly for the use of the puppeteer, not used for long, and they never build up much of an edit history. I joined Wikipedia about four years ago, ImmortalGoddezz about three years ago, and we both have substantial edit histories.
  • Edit histories: I have well over a thousand constructive edits on the English Wikipedia, and ImmortalGoddezz has over 5,000. More importantly while we have some shared interests (Drexel and CF) the vast majority of our histories show rather distinctly the differences in our personalities. I tend to edit things like Public Radio shows and internet culture articles, while ImmortalGoddezz focuses on writers and sorority pages. While this doesn't conclusively prove that I am not a sockpuppet, it makes the assertion laughable.
  • Editing patterns: Sometimes me and ImmortalGoddezz edit at the same time, sometimes we don't. We do tend to edit most during the evening, but there is no clear pattern that would mark us as socks (e.g. alternating between accounts, always editing together).
  • Real life witnesses: Since we have both attended several wikipedia meetups, there are a large number of other wikipedia users, including administrators and ArbCom members, who have met us in person and can attest to the fact that we are two different users, and not one user with multiple accounts.
Given all this evidence any reasonable person will conclude that we are two different people. However I wish to prove further that not only are we not the same person we are not meatpuppets. We, being in a very close and loving relationship with each other, very often find that we are in agreement. We do not always agree, but in those cases we generally talk it out in real life rather than on Wikipedia. The important part--the part that makes us, by definition, not meatpuppets--is that we are both long time members who are familiar with Wikipedia policies and are able to make decisions based on policy. Furthermore we do not, particularly as of late, try to "back eachother up" or support each other in debates, in fact Candice has asked me not to get involved in several recent issues because, although I have come to agree with her through my own judgement and knowledge, it might be viewed as improper. Wikipedia SOCK and MEAT policies were certainly not designed to forbid people who know eachother to both edit wikipedia, as long as they follow policy and use their own independent judgement.
Although I understand that an inexperienced user might, in good faith, suspect us of being sock- or meatpuppets, your attacks against ImmortalGoddezz make me suspect that your motive is nothing more than revenge. --TexasDex 03:41, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding the above, you might want to take a look at Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Alfred Legrand. CM (talk) 18:42, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pearlstein

I am very confident that he was an alumnus, but you're right, i need to do more research. Since he died in 1996, I'm going to try and locate an obituary. Those typically have information about what college people attended. Also, I saw that you said I didn't copy the template properly. Sorry about that. Once I have located a source, I'll let you know and you can reinsert the information at your leasure.

Thanks. --Mblumber (talk) 13:51, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just found his obituary in the Philadelphia inquirer from July 20, 1996. He actually majored in Business Adminstration at NYU. I'm going to write an article on him, but it doesn't belong on the alumni list. Just thought I would let you know. --Mblumber (talk) 00:35, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:SpaceShipOne ground.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:SpaceShipOne ground.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 05:30, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Meetup

It's unfortunate that turnout is going to be so low for the meetup. You would think that at least all the people who voted for that date would come! Anyway, last time someone set up a thing so that anyone with an IP address near Phila would get a notice on their watchlist page. I think that really helped to get the word out and we should make sure that this is done for Meetup 7. Have fun. ike9898 (talk) 18:49, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Non-free promotional discussion

Hello, TexasDex. Since you recently contributed to the lively deletion discussion for Template:Non-free promotional, I thought I'd let you know that I've continued the discussion about this template at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content#Template:Non-free promotional. The result of the deletion discussion was to keep the template, but there are still some questions about whether the current template serves a useful purpose and how to prevent its misapplication. Please contribute to the discussion if you are interested. —Bkell (talk) 17:55, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Philly Meetup 6

I noticed that the meetup got postponed, if I remember correctly, for the 5th meetup I was a part of, everything on a date and time was pretty much set a couple of weeks at least in advance, that way it gave time for everyone to say if they were going or not. I know for this meetup, the date and time was only done about a week in advance. Unless I was incorrect about how the 5th meetup was planned and everything, and the response for the 6th meetup was just not there, maybe you should try to have the date and time for the meetup set a bit more in advance that way people can plan accordingly, and have time to get their replies in on if they are going or not.  :) Whammies Were Here 20:32, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:SpaceShipOne ground.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:SpaceShipOne ground.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 02:11, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Dhira

An editor has nominated Dhira, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dhira and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:59, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. As the organizer of the recent Philadelphia meetup, I would like to invite you to join http://wikinortheast.blogspot.com/ and contribute to our joint blog. So far, we have one contributor from New York (myself) and one from Philadelphia (wikibooks:User:Whiteknight). This blog is syndicated at Planet Wikimedia. Proposed deletion of EmPower

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article EmPower, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.
