Welcome to the Sudan WikiProject, a WikiProject dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of Sudan. Wikipedia's coverage of Sudan, Africa's largest state, is woefully lacking. Filling in the remaining gaps in basic coverage is a priority, though the periodic Featured Article is nice as well.  ;)

  • Abdallah Khalil: I am very confused about the identity and details of this person. This article, which I just started, is about the former Prime Minister, though I have no info on if he is still alive or not. The National Movement for Reform and Development article makes mention of a Khalil Abdallah, which I'm pretty sure is not the same person.   • There are some nice articles on the Catalan Wikipedia about Sudan and related subjects. Compare ca:Beja and en:Beja people, for instance. I've started translating that one and will merge the translation into the English stub, but there's a lot more there if anyone is interested. --babbage 19:20, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • hi all ... in Central Equatoria is said, that the changing of the name happens in 2005, but the external link doesn't proof it - there is written: "The resolution has been passed to the southern Interim Assembly for endorsement and approval before the name Bahr el Jebel is dropped." so officially it was renamed on April 15, 2006 - see 16.04.06 - Sudan Tribune: "Southern Sudan Bahr al-Jabal State changes name" ... or have i misunderstood something ?     • I was trying to figure this out a couple of weeks ago too. What I was trying to find was the Arabic name for Central Equatoria. Everything I could find still used Bahr al-Jabal, except for Wikipedia and a couple of news reports. This included the Sudanese government site ([1], [2]), but I'm not sure how well maintained that is. —Bkell (talk) 14:09, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
      • ... my arabic-expert gives me this: Al-Istiwa'iyya al-wusta (الاستوائية الوسطى, al-Istiwāʾiyya al-wusṭā, english: Central-Equatoria) ... but my questions refers more to the date 2005, should be april 2006 ... Sven-steffen arndt 16:55, 31 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

    • Naw. It's a real organization but the acronym should be SSLA for the military wing, South Sudan Liberation Army, not SLA like the Sudan Liberation Army. I've got a book with some details of its formation but don't know what their current status is. I'll add some details. - BanyanTree 17:18, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

    • I went first the first one, and not just because it was the one I had edited. I does appear to be the most common spelling, at least of the sources that I read. I have merged the pages and fixed the items on dab pages. Cheers, BanyanTree 00:48, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

    • I made a locator map for Wau, and I had to decide on a spelling. All the sources I could find (the Encyclopædia Britannica, the Hammond Explorer Atlas of the World, Goode's World Atlas by Rand McNally, and the CIA World Factbook) used the spelling Wāw, so that's what I put on the map. But it would be very easy to change if consensus determines a different spelling. —Bkell 23:03, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • This is sort of turning into a checklist for topics related to Sudan, a country which has been in the news a lot lately, mostly because of the Darfur conflict. (Maybe it should be turned into a category?) This page will contain a list of topics which need pages, and pages that need improvement.
