Gameplay
The gameplay is quite similar to the earlier, western-themed Sunset Riders, also by Konami. Also, there are a huge numbers of Sunset Riders references since it is developed by the same team. There are certain differences between the two, such the fact that your character has a life bar in this game, as opposed to being a "Italic textone hit wondersuch as in Sunset Riders. Near the end of Stage 1, players will come across a drive-in movie theater, and on screen, a brief clip from the intro of Sunset Riders will play.

The player will find boxes scattered around the levels, which contain power-ups. Like in Sunset Riders, the basic weapon is throwing stars and collecting throwing star power-ups will increase the weapon's power. The player will also discover various japanese foods for extra energy. One of the most valuable power-ups include an invulnerability shield, which lasts a few seconds, and a "Smart Bomb" like power-up, which eliminates all enemies on screen. Also inside the boxes are various items, including bags of money, jewelery, and gold, which give the player extra points.

Story
The prologue of the story mentions a corrupt company known as Skull Enterprises. Behind closed doors lies a brotherhood of ruthless ninjas alongside the evil corporation. Together, they are plotting to take over the world. From there, five ninjas (Spyros, Keira, Yuri, Kojiro, and Brad) will soon find themselves in battle with Skull Enterprises.

The story is also notable for being rather dark for a mid-90s arcade game, as of the five characters you can pick from in the beginning, one will be kidnapped to kick off the plot. In Stage 5, the boss "Skull Tank" is revealed to have the kidnapped ninja inside it's head. Once the boss is defeated, the character that was kidnapped will be rescued.

However, in Stage 6, you will come across an "unbeatable" boss, but then the kidnapped ninja will jump onto the boss and perform a sacrificial attack to free you, killing himself/herself in the process. The rest of the game is spent with the remaining ninjas avenging the death of their fallen comrade. The final stage features the climatic showdown with the CEO of Skull Enterprises on top of the Skull Enterprises tower, and once defeated, the CEO falls to his doom, the tower is blown up, and the world is safe. However, the ninjas mourn the death of their fallen friend...
