Marie Claire is a women's fashion magazine published in France (in French), the United States and the United Kingdom (in English).

Overview

Marie Claire magazine is a monthly woman’s magazine concentrated in the United States. Recently, they have begun to develop the magazine in several other countries around the world. While each country shares its own special voice with its audience, the United States addition focuses on women around the world and several worldwide issues. The magazine also provides the reader with health, beauty, and fashion information in each issue. Women can subscribe to it through the mail and online.

Brief History

The first issue Marie Claire issue was released in the United States in the September/October issue of 1994. However, Jean Prouvost created the original issue in 1937, which was distributed each Wednesday. Newsstands were crowded at all times, and the magazine became extremely popular at a rapid pace. This all would come to a halt.

In 1942, Germany stopped the distribution of magazines, and Marie Claire was one of them. The magazine was not redistributed until 1954. At this time, it became a monthly publication versus a weekly one. In 1976, Prouvost retired and his daughter Evelyne took over the magazine and added L'Oreal Group to the company.

It is now part of Hearst Communications, Inc. based in New York City. However, Hearst has branch offices in France, Italy, and several divisions of the United States such as Detroit, the West Coast, New England, the Midwest, the Southwest, and the Southeast.

The goal of the magazine is to be provide the readers with a substantial amount of information about new looks in the fashion industry as well as current issues that women of the world are facing. Moreover, it also adds relationship information, along with a section dedicated to answering specific questions from readers. It provides information pertaining to different items of clothing and accessories, as well as to which would be a better deal. Each month recognizes a particular female celebrity by placing them on the cover of the magazine and featuring them in a main article, along with providing monthly horoscope.
