Kaiu Shirai (Japanese: 白井 カイウ Shirai Kaiu) is the pen name of a Japanese manga artist and writer whose real name, gender, and date of birth are unknown.

Career History

After graduating from university, Shirai Kaiu gained employment at a normal company, but later resigned. Aiming to become a professional mangaka, they began to submit manuscripts to magazines.[1]

In 2015, Shirai published their first professional work, a standalone piece called, "The Location of Ashley-Gate," in Shōnen Jump+, a digital imprint of Shueisha, with art by Rickey. Again, in the same magazine, they published their second work, another standalone piece called, "Poppy's Wish," in collaboration with artist Denmizu Posuka in February of 2016.

After that, Shirai created a serialized work based on drafts written while they were still an amateur.[1] This work, The Promised Neverland, (with art by Denmizu Posuka) started its run in the 35th issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump from 2016.
