East Quogue is a hamlet (and census-designated place) in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 4,265 at the 2000 census.

East Quogue is in the Town of Southampton.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 30.5 km² (11.8 mi²). 26.7 km² (10.3 mi²) of it is land and 3.9 km² (1.5 mi²) of it (12.64%) is water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 4,265 people, 1,660 households, and 1,133 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 159.9/km² (414.2/mi²). There were 2,465 housing units at an average density of 92.4/km² (239.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 95.26% White, 0.70% African American, 0.07% Native American, 0.70% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.96% from other races, and 2.27% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.39% of the population.

There were 1,660 households out of which 31.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.0% were married couples living together, 7.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.7% were non-families. 24.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 3.08.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 24.2% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 29.8% from 25 to 44, 27.0% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 98.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.8 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $57,441, and the median income for a family was $67,734. Males had a median income of $50,652 versus $37,115 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $28,551. About 3.5% of families and 5.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.4% of those under age 18 and 2.2% of those age 65 or over.

Trivia

East Quogue is one of the smallest residential areas in the well known "Hamptons."

In East Quogue, Children in grades k-6 attented The East Quogue Elementary School. Those in the grades 7-12 attended Westhampton Beach High School, located about 10 minutes west of the hamlet.

East Quogue's "Main Street" was a filming location for the upcoming film, "Margot at the Wedding" (2007) featuring Nicole Kidman and Jack Black

The 2002 MTV Beach House was located on Dune Road in East Quogue.
