The '''Market Street Row''' is located on the west side of that street in [[Poughkeepsie (city), New York|Poughkeepsie]], [[New York]], [[United States]], just south of Hulme Park and across from the [[Adriance Memorial Library]], on the southern edge of downtown. It includes three houses, including the Mott-Van Kleeck House, the oldest [[framing (construction)|frame]] house in the city.<ref name="NRHP nom" />
{{WikiProject Oklahoma|class=b|importance=mid}}

Market Street is Poughkeepsie's oldest, in existence in 1709 when a royal decree made it part of the King's Highway, later to become the [[Albany Post Road]] after [[American independence|independence]]. The Mott-Van Kleeck House was built around 1780 by a descendant of the Van Kleeck family, one of Poughkeepsie's oldest.<ref name="POKhistory">{{cite book |title=History of the City of Poughkeepsie|url=http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ny/county/dutchess/dutch/Hist/pough1.htm |last=Smith |first=James H. |year=1882 |publisher=unknown |chapter=XXX|quote=The first settlers were Dutch, and among the first, if not the first, was Baltus VAN KLEECK}}</ref> [[Architectural style|Stylistically]] it is a precursor to the [[Federal style]], in which later [[ornament (architecture)|decorative]] motifs were added. For many years it indicated the beginning of Poughkeepsie to travelers.

In the late 19th century, around 1880, the two neighboring houses were built. They were ornate two-and-a-half story brick structures with peaked [[slate]] roofs, iron cresting, and [[Queen Anne Style architecture#Shingle Style|Shingle style]] porches. A tower was added to the Mott-Van Kleeck House, in sympathetic colors and materials.<ref name="NRHP nom" />
== Dating of "internet phenomenon" ==

In the automotive era, Market Street was incorporated into [[U.S. Route 9 in New York|US 9]], the main route for drivers from New York City to Albany until the construction of the [[New York State Thruway]] and the subsequent rerouting of Route 9 onto a new expressway through the city. The houses became decrepit and were threatened during [[urban renewal]] efforts in the 1970s.<ref name="NRHP nom" /> They were [[historic preservation|preserved]] instead, and added to the [[National Register of Historic Places]] in 1982. Today they have been [[adaptive reuse|redeveloped]] into commercial offices,<ref name="NRHP nom" /> like the [[Hasbrouck House (Poughkeepsie, New York)|Hasbrouck House]] and [[Amrita Club]] nearby.
From the article: "In 2006, he became the subject of an internet phenomenon known as Chuck Norris Facts."
Chuck norris likes men. Just a list of animals Chuck Norris allows to live. <small>—Preceding [[Wikipedia:Signatures|unsigned]] comment added by [[Special:Contributions/124.171.194.61|124.171.194.61]] ([[User talk:124.171.194.61|talk]]) 05:15, 22 December 2007 (UTC)</small><!-- Template:UnsignedIP --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

This needs to be qualified better. As far as I know, the internet phenomenon is definitely older than 2006, although how old I'm not certain of.

I've heard rumors of an upcoming film and/or animated television series derived from the famous "Chuck Norris Facts." There's currently a splash page on [http://legendofchucknorris.com legendofchucknorris.com] hinting at that fact, plus [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mM3wT2aXqYQ a teaser on YouTube]. This may be worth adding to the article under "Popular Culture." [[User:Toddross|Todd Ross]] 20:34, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

The picture was too weak, as a childhood Chuck Norris fan I had to change it - this "Invasion USA" was a great mindless comedy from 80s. :)

:I guess, there's enough space to include two images, so I re-added the original photo and moved the movie poster to the filmography section. --[[User:Fschoenm|fschoenm]] 22:09, Feb 28, 2005 (UTC)

What Happened too all the images theres only that one picture of him that looks nothing like Chuck Did for most life in the public eye. at least one picture of him with a beard is nessacary. [[User:Technobabble1|Technobabble1]] 02:41, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Chuck Norris has won 6 world fighting middle-weight karate championships. <small>—Preceding [[Wikipedia:Signatures|unsigned]] comment added by [[Special:Contributions/68.222.184.88|68.222.184.88]] ([[User talk:68.222.184.88|talk]]) 18:36, 28 February 2008 (UTC)</small><!-- Template:UnsignedIP --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot-->

The landmark section is only vaguely related to Mr. Norris. He's not leading the poll and he's only and option because pranksters from the US are adding him to the list of possibilities. Is there any proof there's any 'controversy' about this poll as the section suggests?
[[User:Smaerd|Smaerd]] 18:18, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Well, it was directly mentioned on the Colbert Report, where viewers were told to go to the site, click specific links to open up the vote page, and specifically vote for Stephen Colbert. I'm assuming the votes for Chuck are due to the internet meme or a scripting element making the votes on his behalf. Either way, he's far, far behind and it's quite irrelevant. It should only be on a Colbert Report site. Consequently, I think it should be removed from here.

I agree, the section should be removed, as the Colbert already won the poll. One paragraph telling that Norris was in the lead in such a poll (plus a link to the Northern M0 Danube bridge page) should be enough. [[User:Renku|Nene]] 10:09, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

Much of the following doesn't make any grammatical sense.

''He then attended Pembroke College, Oxford for a brief period before joining the United States Air Force as an Air Policeman in 1958 and was sent to Osan Air Base, South Korea. It was in South Korea that Norris acquired the nickname Chuck and began his training in Tang Soo Do (tangsudo), an interest that would lead to black belts in that art, as well as Taekwondo, and Shito ryu Karate, and the founding of the Chun Kuk Do ("Universal Way") form and the education associations United Fighting Arts Federation and "KickStart", formerly "Kick Drugs Out of America", a middle school – and high school – based program intended to give at-risk children a focus point in life through the martial arts.''

Edward Sell was awarded his 8th Dan by the WTF in 1987 and his 9th Dan in 1997. http://christiantaekwondouniversity.net/founders.htm

It might be more accurate to say Mr Norris was the first to receive an 8th Dan in whichever particular association awarded him, however, when the two largest world governing bodies of TKD award 8th Dans to Americans at least seven years before Chuck Norris received his 8th Dan (and from which organisation?)it is hard to accept the idea that Chuck Norris was the first westerner to get and 8th Dan TKD. Was his only training for tournament karate the skills he learned in South Korea? I thought generally the article does not make clear enough how he developed his skills. If I have time I might come back to edit this but just wanted to raise the issue in case someone else wanted to work on this who already knows what's up. Thanks. == The ancestry of Carlos Ray Norris, A.K.A. "Chuck Norris" ==

I've posted my work based on research done with Ancestry.com's resources, and various other sources.
It is my hope that others can use this as a starting point for their own Norris family research.

== Physical Stats ==

Considering Chuck Norris is/was a professional fighter. There should be a listing of his physical stats. Height, weight etc. Chuck Norris as simply an actor i understand why they may or may not be listed. But considering he began and was primarily a professional fight... these shats should be listed.

I'm not talking about now, just during his fight career.

Your thoughts on this?

Maybe that belongs under "Chuck Norris in Popular Culture."

== DOCTOR Chuck ==

I was at Liberty University this past weekend when he gave the commencement speech, which was absolutely epic, anyway, Falwell Jr. gave him an honorary doctorate, so he's now Doctor Carlos Ray "Chuck" Norris. I think that's worth mentioning. This is exactly what Liberty University's web page said:

"LU Chancellor and President Jerry Falwell Jr. said this was a first for LU: “Today is historic because it is the first commencement address at Liberty that will be delivered in cowboy boots.”

Carlos Ray Norris, who is most known for his good-guy role defending justice on TV’s Walker, Texas Ranger, then received an honorary degree, Doctorate of Humanities, from Liberty."

All the information, and more, can be found at this link on Liberty's official website:
https://www.liberty.edu/libertyjournal/index.cfm?PID=16046&artid=185

and here's a picture someone from the graduating class got of him on the stage with his robes on:

== How tall? ==

Officially he's 5'10" but in fact he's more like 5'8" from what I could tell. Smells of scandal! His height is an issue because he's an inspiration for tiny little cute guys everywhere. They can live the life of massive impressive physical speciments if they can actually get away with it. Perhaps there should be an entry on people whose vision prevents them from correctly judging people's heights or reading a measuring tape. --[[User:Megaforcemedia|Megaforcemedia]] ([[User talk:Megaforcemedia|talk]]) 15:10, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

== Junior? ==

With a few web searches I couldn't turn up any reference to his birth name including a Jr. that seemed to be independent of and more reliable than Wikipedia. Also, in his autobiography [http://books.google.com/books?id=KNfwZWSnCSQC&printsec=frontcover&dq=Against+All+Odds&sig=EQIqxE_Z0Kn58Z026lOG8pncgWg#PPA11,M1] he says his father's name is Ray, and the genealogy link [http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=PED&db=14x24&id=I0001] someone has in this discussion page says it's Ray D. Norris. Also, his father being Carlos and he being Jr. is inconsistent with him being named after his minister, which he also says in his autobiography. So I changed it.
Also, both the cited NYT article and his book spell his brother's name Wieland. [[User:Zander|Zander]] ([[User talk:Zander|talk]]) 01:16, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

== Family man quote is too strong ==

Under Personal Life, after detailing how he had a child out of wedlock the following quote shows up:

"Norris has always been a very loving family man"

Which uses a People magazine article of him hugging his adult sons as evidence.

This seems to be pretty weak evidence for this assertion.

:Fisrt, please use the four tilde thing <nowiki>~~~~</nowiki> to sign your posts. It's easier to refer to someone when there's a someone to refer to. Second, I'm not sure what is the problem. Are you saying that having children out of wedlock demeans the "family man" comment? Or that hugging his son is not enough proof? I'm not sure the picture is there to provide proof for the statement (that would be OR and should be eliminated if that's the case). If you don't believe the statement then place a {{tl|fact}} tag on it and see what turns up. If you could explain more clearly what the problem is maybe I could help further. The Market Street Row is located on the west side of that street in Poughkeepsie, New York, United States, just south of Hulme Park and across from the Adriance Memorial Library, on the southern edge of downtown. It includes three houses, including the Mott-Van Kleeck House, the oldest frame house in the city.[1]

Market Street is Poughkeepsie's oldest, in existence in 1709 when a royal decree made it part of the King's Highway, later to become the Albany Post Road after independence. The Mott-Van Kleeck House was built around 1780 by a descendant of the Van Kleeck family, one of Poughkeepsie's oldest.[2] Stylistically it is a precursor to the Federal style, in which later decorative motifs were added. For many years it indicated the beginning of Poughkeepsie to travelers.

In the late 19th century, around 1880, the two neighboring houses were built. They were ornate two-and-a-half story brick structures with peaked slate roofs, iron cresting, and Shingle style porches. A tower was added to the Mott-Van Kleeck House, in sympathetic colors and materials.[1]

In the automotive era, Market Street was incorporated into US 9, the main route for drivers from New York City to Albany until the construction of the New York State Thruway and the subsequent rerouting of Route 9 onto a new expressway through the city. The houses became decrepit and were threatened during urban renewal efforts in the 1970s.[1] They were preserved instead, and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. Today they have been redeveloped into commercial offices,[1] like the Hasbrouck House and Amrita Club nearby.
