Popponesset Island is a census-designated place and part of the town of Mashpee in Barnstable County, Massachusetts. As of the 2000 census, it had a total population of 39.

Geography

Popponesset Island is located at 41°35'2" North, 70°27'35" West (41.584001, -70.459832)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, Popponesset Island has a total area of 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²). 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.8 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 78.95% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 39 people, 19 households, and 12 families residing in Popponesset Island. The population density was 188.2/km² (502.1/mi²). There were 69 housing units at an average density of 333.0/km² (888.3/mi²). The racial makeup of Popponesset Island is 100.00% White.

There were 19 households out of which 15.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.9% were married couples living together, 5.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.6% were non-families. 31.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 21.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
