Sailor Springs is a village in Clay County, Illinois, United States. The population was 95 at the 2010 census.[3]

Geography

Sailor Springs is located in eastern Clay County at 38°45′49″N 88°21′40″W / 38.76361°N 88.36111°W / 38.76361; -88.36111 (38.763611, -88.361182).[4] Louisville, the county seat, is 8 miles (13 km) to the west.

According to the 2010 census, Sailor Springs has a total area of 0.25 square miles (0.65 km2), all land.[5]

There were 61 housing units at an average density of 240.2 per square mile (94.2/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 99.22% White, and 0.78% from two or more races.

There were 52 households out of which 30.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.0% were married couples living together, 13.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.6% were non-families. 30.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 19.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.46 and the average family size was 3.03.

In the village, the population was spread out with 31.3% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 17.2% from 45 to 64, and 19.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females, there were 96.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 69.2 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $21,563, and the median income for a family was $21,875. Males had a median income of $36,250 versus $19,250 for females. The per capita income for the village was $12,785. There were 19.0% of families and 22.3% of the population living below the poverty line, including 36.7% of under eighteens and 14.7% of those over 64.
