Untitled

Voices is the second and final full-length album by New York band Matchbook Romance. It leaves behind much of the characteristic punk sound of their debut, Stories and Alibis, opting for a darker, more foreboding tone. Vocalist Andrew Jordan adopts a much different vocal style for this record than their previous, further setting the band apart from their "emo" roots.

Inside the album's packaging is a small plastic panel, with alternating black and transparent strips. This panel can be aligned with parts of the album's artwork to reveal secret messages. Hence "there are voices in the walls." Some of the lyrics to the hidden track can also be found in typos in the lyrics of the other songs.

Miscellaneous

  • Inside the booklet that contains the lyrics, there is a hidden message; in darkened letters, it displays the following message:

"Is there really a God? We could really use a miracle right now. I'm really not scared. I deserve what I get. They're coming for me tonight. Invite them in to take me away. It's all a bad dream, a nightmare. If you will leave your light on, I'm prepared for the worst. I'll get back to you. We've all got secrets. This is our chance. Wake up."

  • Using the transparent black-and-white stripped decoder in Voices, there are hidden messages on the different wallpaper in the album art
Front: "Purchase at your peril, oh wretched believers of non."
Head mounts: "Mind your skull, lest it become my chowder bowl."
Back: "The teeth of time draw scars of voices."
Middle of lyrics book: "Serve the broth of my heart to the tongueless."
