Martin Paul Whitely was born on 19 October 1959 in Perth, Australia. He has been a Labor member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly since February 2001. He represented the electorate of Roleystone from 2001 to 2005 and, following the abolishment of Roleystone, has represented the electorate of Bassendean since 2005.[1]

Once in Parliament, Whitely has acted as the Deputy Government Whip from March 2005 to August 2006 and was the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry during the Carpenter government.
