Motherfucker (also contracted form: mofo and muthafucka) is a common insult and profanity in the English language, and is widely considered obscene and inappropriate. Originally, it was a descriptive term used to describe the male parent of a female African slave who had been sexually abused by their master. The term is popular in hip hop culture.

In recent years, "motherfucker" is increasingly being used to describe inanimate objects, dating back to early hip hop culture. An example from a song by Rockmaster Scott and the Dynamic Three, which has since become a hip hop cliché:

The roof! The roof! The roof is on fire!
We don't need no water, let the motherfucker burn!
Burn! Burn! Motherfucker burn!

In spite of overuse, the term is widely considered highly insulting when used in earnest.

Another example of the hyperbolic use of the term "motherfucker" is Ken Mondschein's Webzine Corporate Motherfucker
