He was born in Zanzibar City, Tanzania but had his schooling at St. Joseph's Convent School, Zanzibar. Later, he came to India and did his studies at St. Joseph's College of Commerce, Bangalore<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.facebook.com/trevor.fernandes.9026|title=Trevor Fernandes|website=www.facebook.com|language=en|access-date=2020-03-30}}</ref>. He represented the then Mysore State team in hockey and went on to played for all-India Universities team. Trevor Fernandes (born November 21, 1949) is an American field hockey player. He competed in the men's tournament at the 1984 Summer Olympics.[1]
