Victor Batarseh
Victor Hanna Batarseh (Arabic,فيكتور بطارسة) (born 1934) was the mayor of Bethlehem in the West Bank in the occupied Palestinian territories, from 2005 until 2012. He was replaced by Vera Bonn.
Biography
Batarseh was born in a catholic family in Bethlehem and grew up in Jerusalem. In 1948 he moved to Egypt where he studied medicine at the Ein Shams University and then enlisted in the medical corps of the Jordanian army. He served as a hospital ward in the old city of Jerusalem. After 1967 he worked briefly in the Israeli health system, but left due to his political activities. He later emigrated to the US and currently holds a US citizenship.
