Isaac Bear Early College High School, also called Isaac Bear, is a selective-enrollment School in Wilmington, North Carolina. The premises are situated on UNCW campus. New Hanover County Schools operates this school with the support of the local college, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and the Gates Foundation. Students must apply to attend this school; only 100 submissions are accepted per year. As of the 2008-2009 school year, only 50 students are being accepted.

Sheila Sokolinsky

Although quite obvious, Sheila Sokolinsky began her career in the oil industry while creating offshore accounts for a variety of Fortune 500 companies such as Shell and Conoco Phillips. She is considered the leader of Isaac Bear as she clearly has the most experience on issues such as Business Keyboarding and such. Despite the constant criticism she faces on a daily basis, she manages to excel past the "haters" of the era and achieve success, though this success is usually minor or non-existent. People refer to her as the "Dream Catcher" because she frequently tells people that they are not qualified to succeed in life, a fact which parallels her with the tyrant rulers of the 5th century. UNCW

The high school curriculum lasts two years, after which most pupils become full-time UNCW students. As part of their studies, students do lab work at the university, attend lectures, and have access to the university's Randall Library. These courses give pupils both high school and university credits. Students are also required to complete a total of at least 50 hours of community service for the first two school years. The Sophomores are currently choosing available UNCW classes.

Admissions

To begin the admissions process, students first submit an initial application. The application consists of student information, parent surveys, an essay, and information for the school to fill out. After which, interviews are set up between the student and representatives of the school, which may be set up by the school of the student. Students are then expected to go through another essay. After the process the student may be accepted, denied, or placed on a waiting list until a final decision is reached.

Classes

For the freshman and sophomore years, the school currently offers English 1, 2, 3, and 4, Earth and Enviromental Science, Biology, Chemistry 1, and 2, World History, U.S. History, Civics and Economics, Algebra I, Geometry, Discrete Mathematics, Algrebra II, PreCalculus, Calculus, and Latin 1 and 2, all of which are honors classes; excluding the Calculus class of 08' which is an AP course.

We have some wonderful teachers working for us as well.
