The Conch Bearer is a fantasy novel written by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni.
Plot summary
Anand, who lives in modern India, has never gone to school because his family is very poor, and he works at a tea shop to earn money. At the shop one day, he meets an old man who looked like a beggar. Despite his ragged clothing, the old man seemed wise, and Anand wanted to ask questions. But Haru, the owner, shooes the beggar off. That evening, however, the old man returns, this time at Anand's house. The mysterious old man claims to be the master healer. The master healer tells Anand that he wants him to accompany him on a quest to the Himalayas to return an enchanted conch to its rightful place. This novel follows Anand on his quest with the old man, and a clever girl called Nisha.
