Lowndes High School (also called Lowndes County High School) is a public high school in Valdosta, Georgia. The school is part of the Lowndes school district, which serves Lowndes County.[4]
The school was established in 1966, and combined the former Hahira High School and Lowndes County High School. In 1969, when the county integrated their schools, the former black school, Westside High School was also combined into Lowndes.
Facilities
The school was authorized a 5200 square-foot weight room addition for its athletic programs, at a proposed cost of $463,695 in February of 2008.[5]
Lowndes has 904 instructional computers.[2]
Sports
The Lowndes High School football team, Viking, was ranked by ESPN at #2 in the United States on 18 August 2008.[6] The team has been the Georgia State Champions in 1980, 1999, 2004, 2005, and 2007.[7]
