Fairfield University

Please do not replace Wikipedia pages with blank content, as you did to Fairfield University. Blank pages are harmful to Wikipedia because they have a tendency to confuse readers. If it is a duplicate article, please redirect it to an appropriate existing page. If the page has been vandalised, please revert it to the last legitimate version. If you feel that the content of a page is inappropriate, please edit the page and replace it with appropriate content. If you believe there is no hope for the page, please see the deletion policy for how to proceed. Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia! -- Merope 15:34, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not replace Wikipedia pages or sections with blank content. It is considered vandalism. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. Thanks. -- Merope 15:40, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Response to your message

I am reversing your contributions because you keep deleting the entire section on Athletics in the Fairfield University article. (See: [1]). Removing content from articles without explanation is considered vandalism. -- Merope 15:53, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Are you serious? You had pics blocking text boxes and covering up other pics. I only removed one small picture and moved two so they would not block the text that you have been working so hard on writing. you need to take a look at formatting styles and possibly consider removing some pics. sometimes less is more Trey 03:54, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Stagophile, I wanted to alert you regarding the status of an article you created. A tag has been placed on Meredith Wallace, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be a biographical account about a person, group of people, or band, but it does not indicate how or why he/she/they is/are notable. If you can indicate why Meredith Wallace is really notable, I advise you to edit the article promptly, and also put a note on Talk:Meredith Wallace. Any admin should check for such edits before deleting the article. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 7 under Articles. You might also want to read our general biography criteria. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. To contest the tagging and request that admins should wait a while for you to assert his/her/their notability, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and then immediately add such an assertion. It is also a very good idea to add citations from reliable sources to ensure that your article will be verifiable. I added a stub tag and category to the article, but this alone will not be sufficient to alleviate its deletion. Additional improvement will be needed. Accurizer 16:06, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Response to Merope

I am not deleting the Athletics section. If you had scrolled down, you would have seen that I was rearranged the section and put the Athletics section at the end.

Image:Fairfield Donnarumma.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Fairfield Donnarumma.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --– Quadell (talk) (random) 18:24, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Fairfield Seal Red.JPG)

Thanks for uploading Image:Fairfield Seal Red.JPG. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 18:29, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image tagging for Image:Fairfield Bellarmine.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Fairfield Bellarmine.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Please do not upload still images in the GIF format

Hello and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that you've uploaded a number of still images in the GIF format. In the future, please save GIF images in the PNG format before uploading (see Wikipedia:Preparing images for upload). PNG images almost always have a smaller file size, which decreases the amount of time they take to load. There are a bunch of other advantages to the PNG format such as lossless compression that you can read about on its Wikipedia article. —Remember the dot (t) 20:37, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

please add articles so they will stay

or you are wasting your time & that of others.

Novotny seems a worthy subject for an article, but if you would like the article to remain you must write it in the WP style, which includes:

  • looking like an encyclopedia article not a CV (use asterisks for lists, just as I did)
  • saying in the first sentence something to demonstrate notability, like professor of X at, winner of the XYZ prize and N honorary doctorate (whatever applies). Use the exact word: "notable"; do not use "famous"
  • not going into disproportionate personal details
  • listing college degrees with university and year -- and putting the university names in double brackets
  • listing important awards
  • listing important memberships and offices held
  • listing books published as formal references style: Author, title, Publisher, year ISBN if possible.
  • listing some major published papers, say how many.

and, most important, giving some 3rd party sources. A website at a university etc. can be one, but it cannot be the only one. Book reviews are fine, or a newspaper stories. Print or web is OK, but not from a list or a blog. These is unfortunately, prejudice against people from the academic world. Look at similar articles.

If you do not do this immediately, the article will probably be deleted in a day or two--though not by me. I apologize for not having the time to help you personally. DGG 05:43, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Fairfield Men's Ensemble.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Fairfield Men's Ensemble.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:41, 1 March 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fang Aili talk 02:41, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fairfield University Template

The image in the template that you erased was a logo and not fair use image that I enhanced in paintbrush. I did this in the same manner as done on the Duke template. Please help me understand the difference. I really get frustrated when I spend a considerable amount of time creating content and then others swoop in and just erase everything that I have done. (Stagophile 03:36, 1 March 2007 (UTC)).[reply]

Unfortunately, logos (at least those that use the {{logo}} tag, are fair use images. Wikipedia:Fair use, under "policy", says Fair use images may be used only in the article namespace. Used outside article space, they are not covered under the fair use doctrine. They should never be used on templates (including stub templates and navigation boxes) or on user pages. I know it's a bummer, but it's the way it is. Cheers, Fang Aili talk 15:08, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio issues

The best way I know to avoid having articles deleted as copyvios is not to use "copy" and "paste". When a writer starts with someone else's words, the writer usually ends up with someone else's words. Try reviewing the sources, making notes or an outline (not complete sentences), and then writing in your own words. That usually does the trick. Good luck! -- But|seriously|folks  23:23, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely -- I'll email the markup text to you so you can straighten them out. Thanks and happy editing! -- But|seriously|folks  02:30, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for uploading Image:Stags In The Stands.PNG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 01:19, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Fairfield_Library.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 18:54, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:BluefishonWVOF.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:BluefishonWVOF.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:10, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Fairfield Shield.PNG

Thanks for uploading Image:Fairfield Shield.PNG. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Kevin J. Kelleher, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.realogy.com/about/kevin_kelleher.cfm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. Notability of Kevin J. Kelleher

A tag has been placed on Kevin J. Kelleher requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Andante1980 (talk) 14:37, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
