Alan Parker directed a short film called White Elephant (year of release unknown), a drama following a British Army patrol through a tour of duty in Northern Ireland in the early 1980's. During the film, the unit come under fire, attack IRA terrorists, and get blown up by booby-traps, all in a day's work. |

Before moving into film, he was captivated for being one of London’s best known copywriter and commercials directors. He started off his career as a director at an advertisement agency called Coller Dickinson Pearce (CDP), where he directed his own scripts for television commercials in their basement. After his short lived partnership with David Puttnam for a photography agency, he decided to extend his horizons towards the white screen. He directed his first movie “....” as a full time director in 19bla.. He displayed intellectual ability in other areas which include producing, acting, and writing, but chose to rise in his career as a film director.
