Águilas Negras (German: Black Eagle ) is the name of a number of Colombian right-wing paramilitary organizations involved in drug trafficking and armed conflict in Colombia .

Parts of the Águilas Negras were formed from existing forces from the AUC , which was actually demobilized in 2006 , and others have emerged. They appeared for the first time in 2006 in Cúcuta and Ocaña ( Norte de Santander ) and are said to have had a strength of around 4,000 men at that time. They later appeared in 22 of the 32 Colombian departments. In addition to drug smuggling, its activities include targeted murders, extortion and the persecution of human rights and left activists.

The Águilas Negras, who are sometimes referred to as the third generation of the paramilitaries in Colombia, are counted among the so-called BACRIM (Spanish Bandas criminales emergentes ), criminal gangs that occur in Colombia.

Cuba

Part of the organization has established itself in Cuba for the purpose of laundering money from profitable drug deals . According to the FBI , several tons of drugs are leaked to the Los Zetas cartel via Mexico every year .
