Árpád line

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Árpád Line was a Hungarian fortress line during World War II , built between 1941 and 1944 in the northeast and eastern Carpathians on the border of the Kingdom of Hungary . It was named after Árpád , the head of the Hungarian tribes. The main function of the line was to protect Transylvania , the Szeklerland and the Carpathian-Ukraine from attacks from the east ( Soviet Union ). The line was designed as the main line of defense. Upstream of this line were the Hunyad Line and Prinz Eugen Line . The line was designed as a flexible line of defense similar to the Finnish Mannerheim Line or the Israeli Bar Lew Line .
