aegis

The aegis ( ancient Greek Αἰγίς Aigis "shield of Zeus ") is the protection and custody relationship in which a subordinate instance or institution is temporarily vis-à-vis a higher, protective institution.

It is used both in the relationship between states , for example "under the aegis of the Ottoman Empire ", and in foundations or awards such as B. in the sense of patronage , spoken of aegis as protection, custody or management.
