Edouard Niermans

Édouard Niermans (born November 10, 1943 in Paris ) is a French film director, actor and screenwriter.

He first attracted public attention at the Cannes Film Festival with the short film La syncope . In 1980 he directed his first feature film, Anthracite , which is set at a boarding school run by Jesuits and has autobiographical features. The thriller Engel aus Staub , which appeared in 1987, was a critical success . In 1992 he was present for a second time in Cannes with Casanova's return . However, most of his directorial work was done for television.

Niermans was tutored in a Jesuit-run college for nine years. "Still, I don't know whether I am a believer or not."
