Circulating oil lubrication

A circulating oil is preferred for lubrication and cooling of sliding and ball bearings applied. It is a form of oil bath lubrication for higher speeds of the components to be lubricated.

General and functionality

Circulating oil lubrication is generally used to lower the operating temperature and to avoid frequent oil changes. Compared to oil bath lubrication, an oil pump is integrated in this system and the oil runs through a circuit. After it has run through the bearings, it settles in a tank, is filtered, cooled or warmed as required and then fed back to the lubrication points. The oil is prepared either in the lubrication circuit or in a separate secondary circuit which, depending on the application, must be equipped with its own pump.

The oil filtration reduces the degree of contamination and extends the service life of the bearing. In larger systems there are several circuits that are controlled with current monitoring devices. This system is known as automatic lubrication. They ensure a permanent supply of the bearing points concerned with the correct lubricant and the precise amount. But that does not prevent the control of this system. The Buchli drive equipped with this system for lubricating the motor pinion was particularly maintenance-intensive.
