The Haydn-Philharmonie - Orchestra In Residence Schloss Esterhazy Eisenstadt was founded in 1987 as the Austro-Hungarian Haydn Philharmonic by Ádám Fischer from members of the Vienna Philharmonic and the great Hungarian orchestras.

Fischer's concern was to musically overcome the “Iron Curtain” with musicians from both countries - before the border was opened in 1989 - and to perform Joseph Haydn's oeuvre together .

The place of performance and headquarters of the orchestra is the Haydn Hall of Esterházy Palace , i.e. where Joseph Haydn himself worked.

The orchestra has established itself internationally through numerous tours through Europe, North and South America and Asia. Between 1988 and 2002 all Haydn symphonies were recorded on CD under Adam Fischer. These recordings have been awarded numerous prizes. Recovery MDG received the Echo Klassik awards in 2006 and 2008. With the season 2015/16 the cellist was Altstaedt appointed chief conductor of the orchestra. Ádám Fischer remains associated with the orchestra as an honorary conductor.
