The Austrian doctors' and pharmacists Bank AG is a stock corporation with its headquarters in Vienna and other locations in Austria. As an Austrian specialist bank , the bank offers financial services for doctors, dentists and pharmacists.
The credit institute in its current form was created in 2017 from the merger of Österreichische Apothekerbank eG and Bank für Ärzte und Freie Berufe AG .
History of the pharmacist's bank
The Austrian Apothekerbank had since its creation as a central, credit and savings Institute of pharmacists Austria reg.Gen.mbH in 1910 the Ethics Bank of pharmacists in Austria. As a cooperative bank , it pursued a promotional idea for its members.
From 1925 onwards, the bank was renamed to Apotheker Zentralkassa.
In 1943 the institute was merged with “Pharmakred” Kredit- und Garantiegenossenschaft mbH Vienna under the new company name: “Wiener Apothekerbank”.
History of the medical bank
The Ärztebank was founded on October 28, 1914 as the Lower Austrian War Credit Bank. The purpose of the bank at the time was to promote the commercial economy.
In 1967 the then Zentralsparkasse der Volksbanken reg.Gen.mbH, later Österreichische Volksbanken AG and now Volksbank Wien AG, acquired the majority of shares from the hands of the federal government.
At the beginning of the 1980s, the company specialized in looking after the medical and dental profession and the liberal professions. In 1982 it was decided to change the company name to Bank für Wirtschaft und Freie Berufe AG (WIF-Bank). In 2003, the focus on the medical profession was declared with the renewed name change to Bank für Ärzte und Freie Berufe AG (Die Ärztebank).
At the end of 2009, the medical bank was spun off from the VBAG group. The medical associations and Schulze-Delitzsch Doctors and Liberal Professions acted as new owners. Initially, local Volksbanks were involved in this cooperative, later also customers of the Ärztebank.
Merger to form Österreichische Ärzte- und Apothekerbank AG
In October 2017, Österreichische Ärzte- und Apothekerbank AG was created from the merger of Österreichische Apothekerbank eG and Bank für Ärzte und Freie Berufe AG. The management cooperative Österreichische Apothekerbank eG was accepted into the group of shareholders of the bank.
