The Austrian Lacrosse Association (ÖLaxV) is the umbrella organization of the Austrian lacrosse clubs. The ÖLaxV was founded in 2005.

In the year it was founded, the ÖLaxV became an official member of the ELF and an associated member of the Federation of International Lacrosse . In the same year the women also took part in the Newcomer's European Championships in Denmark and achieved 4th place. The ÖLaxV is now a full member of the FIL (Federation of International Lacrosse).

At the European Championships in Lahti in 2008 both men and women took part. The women took part in the World Championships in Prague in June 2009 and in the World Championships in Oshawa / Canada in July 2013. The men's national team took part in the 2010 World Cup in Manchester. In addition to building up the two national teams, the ÖLaxV also aims to build a youth team. For this reason, Intercrosse is increasingly being presented in Viennese schools and will subsequently be offered as an optional subject.

history

In 2001 the first Austrian lacrosse club, the Salzburg Arizonas, was founded and remained the only club in Austria until 2003. The Vienna Monarchs were founded as a second association, to which a Viennese association, the Vienna Cherokees , joined in the following year .

Here the course was set for a transnational league so that countries with fewer clubs could play regularly. The Danube Lacrosse Conference (DLC) was held with 3 teams for the first time in 2004. In addition, the Austrian Lacrosse Open took place for the first time in May 2004 . 2004 is also the founding year of the Graz Gladiators and the Carinthian Cardinals .

The year 2005 was one of the most eventful in Austrian lacrosse history. Lacrosse was included in the sports program at the Vienna University Sports Institute and the Austrian Lacrosse Association was founded. In addition, the DLC took place for the second time, this time with 5 teams and the Austrian Lacrosse Open was held again.

In 2006, the next Austrian club, Wels Lions, was founded in Upper Austria. After the organization of the 3rd Austrian Lacrosse Open, the 1st Austrian Lacrosse Championship was also played in May and June with 3 men's and 2 women's teams. The winners of the men's and women's championships were the Vienna Cherokees. As if that weren't enough, the Austrian clubs took part in the DLC again, this time with 6 teams.

In the 2nd execution of the Austrian Lacrosse Championship 4 men and 2 women teams took part. The men's champion is again Vienna Cherokees. The Graz Gladiators won the women's championship .

In 2008 the Austrian championship will be played for the third time. 6 men's and 3 women's teams play in the Austrian Lacrosse League (ÖLL) this year. The Vienna Cherokees were once again able to call themselves Austrian champions for men and for the second time the Graz Gladiators won the championship for women.

In 2009 the Austrian League took place for the first time with the participation of foreign teams. For the men, the Bratislava Bats and the Ljubljana Dragons started at the beginning of the season and the league should have been played with 8 teams. Unfortunately, the Bratislava Bats and the Carinthian Cardinals dropped out in the first half of the season. The Vienna Monarchs were able to defeat the Vienna Cherokees in an exciting final game and call themselves the new Austrian men's champions.

The Bratislava Trickster played in the women's team and the Graz Gladiators women's team dominated the season again and were able to call themselves Austrian women's champions for the third time.

league

The Austrian champion is played in the Austrian Lacrosse League (ÖLL) and the games take place on Game Days.

In general, the international field lacrosse rules apply. For this purpose, some rules and field markings will be adjusted according to the reduced number of players.

Women:

  • Number of players: 12 per team, minimum: 10
  • Playing time: 2 × 30 minutes, 10 minutes break
  • Modified rules of the game: If a team cannot provide a complete team, there is the option to play with a reduced number of players. The rules are based on those of the International Union. The adjustment of the "offside rule" reduces the number of attackers to 7 in the attack third.

Men's:

  • Number of players: 10 per team
  • Playing time: 4 × 20 minutes, 2, 5 and 3 minutes break between the quarters
  • Modified rules of the game: if a team does not form a complete team, there is the option to play with 7 + 1, whereby the team may not have more than 12 players in the game.
