The OFI Technologie & Innovation GmbH (formerly Austrian Research Institute for Chemistry and Technology - ofi) is a private research and testing institute with offices in Vienna and Klagenfurt. It is the largest of the 17 cooperative research institutions within the Austrian Cooperative Research and has 120 employees.
As an accredited testing, inspection and certification body, OFI is the specialist for testing and confirming the reliability of materials, as well as for assessing and planning the renovation of buildings.
history
It was founded in 1946 as the “Chemical Research Institute of the Austrian Economy (CFI)”; it goes back to an initiative of the professional association of the chemical industry as well as individual representatives of the Austrian economy. The purpose of the establishment was to provide Austrian companies with a research institute after the Second World War , which would be active in the interests of the development and expansion of Austrian industry. Due to a rapidly increasing focus on new materials and products, the institute was renamed “Austrian Research Institute for Chemistry and Technology”, or ofi for short, in 1984. In 2018 the OFI technical center in the arsenal was rebuilt and expanded in order to be able to make even better use of the interdisciplinarity of the experts.

For more than 70 years, OFI has been the independent quality control partner for many companies, be it for food packaging, vehicles, pipes or structures. Its offer is aimed at the focus areas:

Applied research and development as well as testing, appraisal, inspection and certification represent the essential customer-specific services. Specialized training courses and events complete the range of services. A particular focus is on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and accompanying them with product developments and product innovations. OFI is an accredited testing and inspection body in accordance with EN ISO / IEC 17025 or EN ISO / IEC 17020 (Type A), an accredited product certification body in accordance with EN 45011, GMP-certified and a notified body in accordance with Article 18 of the European Construction Products Directive.
