Austrian school newspaper center

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Austrian School Newspaper Center ( ÖSZ ) served to create a movement of basic initiatives for school newspapers and, on the other hand, to educate and train editors in both journalistic and technical terms.

history

It was founded in 1970 by functionaries of the Association of Socialist Middle School Students (VSM), including Fritz Keller (historian) , and enjoyed the support of Education Minister Fred Sinowatz.

The background to the establishment was the attempt by the VSM to gain political influence on the rapidly emerging school newspapers through the ÖSZ. At the same time, the school newspapers in Austria should be provided with technical aids for the production of the newspapers.

The first managing director of the ÖSZ was Helmut Dité. He was followed at the beginning of 1971 by Michael Amon , who was at the same time deputy chairman of the VSM Vienna and representative of the Austrian Federal Youth Council on the student council of the Ministry of Education. At the beginning of 1973 the VSM functionary Margit Budil took over the management. As a result of the conflict between the VSM and the leadership of the SPÖ, the ÖSZ also dissolved.
