Silvia Weissteiner

Silvia Weissteiner (born July 13, 1979 in Sterzing ) is an Italian medium and long-distance runner .

So far, the South Tyrolean has been Italian champion six times: in 2005 and 2006 over 5000 meters outdoors and 3000 meters indoors as well as in cross-country skiing in 2003 on the short and in 2006 on the long distance. At the European Championships she came in 2002 in Munich over 5000 meters on 13th and in 2006 in Gothenburg over 10,000 meters on 14th place, and twice she won bronze over 5000 meters at the Mediterranean Games: 2005 in Almería and 2009 in Pescara . She has been called up for the Italian national team 38 times.

She also won bronze at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in 2007 over 3000 meters, and in the same year she took twelfth place at the World Championships in Osaka over 5000 meters. At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing she was eliminated over the same distance in the preliminary run, and at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin she was the best non-African woman and finished seventh in 15: 09.74 minutes. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London she was eliminated in the preliminary stages, in the same year Weissteiner was again Italian champion over 3000m indoor and eliminated in the preliminary stage at the Indooreuropean Championships in Gothenburg. Silvia Weissteiner is 1.63 m tall and weighs 46 kg. She lives in the Gasteig district of the Ratschings community , is employed by the forest guard and is trained by Ruggero Grassi.
