The Hague Convention on the International Protection of Adults of January 13, 2000 is intended to internationally recognize decisions in the field of the protection of adults (particularly those with impairments who require a legal representative ).

The Convention has been ratified by Germany and published in the Federal Law Gazette ( BGBl. 2007 II p. 323, 324 ), as has an implementing law ( BGBl. 2007 I p. 314 ).

At the beginning of 2019, the agreement will also apply to the following countries:

Other states that have signed but not yet ratified are Greece , Ireland , Italy , Luxembourg , the Netherlands and Poland .

The responsible central authority under the aforementioned agreement is the Federal Office of Justice in Germany and the Federal Ministry of Justice in Austria .
