Transition cone

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The transition cone is a steep alluvial cone of a glacier stream that connects to the end of the glacier.

Transitional cones are interlocked with terminal moraines up the valley , and down the valley they merge into the gravel fields of the glacial streams.

The transition cone is a collection of alluvial debris (sand, stones, rubble, etc.) that was washed down the mountain by the glacier water and connects to the terminal moraine pushed by the glacier and runs in gravel fields.

With the retreat of the glacier, the glacier brook cuts the transition cone again due to the increased amount of meltwater, creating small trumpet-shaped valleys, the so-called trumpet valleys .
