Transition construction

The transition structure (also road level crossing or Üko for short ) is a component of a bridge and compensates for the deformations and movements of the bridge superstructure towards the bridge ends. The deformations of the superstructure result from temperature fluctuations and traffic loads and, depending on the bridge, range from a few millimeters to meters. The transition construction compensates for these differences by pushing them apart and together.

Road construction

In road construction, a distinction is made between the following types of road crossing structures:

  • Roll closures
  • Finger transitions
  • Drag plate transitions
  • Lamellar road transitions
  • Plastic modified asphalt

railroad

For longer railway bridges , transition structures in the form of rail extensions are used to limit the constraining forces in the rail from the longitudinal deformation of the bridge structure. If the length changes to be compensated are short enough, the longitudinal forces are absorbed by means of sleepers that are clamped together .

Furthermore, transition structures are used when changing the superstructure type, e.g. B. at the transition from a ballasted track to a slab track . In bridges with slab tracks, compensation plates are also installed to halve the end tangent angle.
