It was created in duplicate during the transfer of the picture Gnadenbild Mariahilf from Lucas Cranach the Elder to Innsbruck in 1630. These identical pictures are about the presentation of the handover of the Mother of God to the Prince of Tyrol, Leopold V , and his wife Claudia von Medici , who donated the image of the saint by Lucas Cranach. These works were created on behalf of Claudia von Medici by the artist Paul Honegger , with the intention of handing one over to the Innsbruck Cathedral and the second to the personal physician of the princely couple, Paul Weinhart the Elder.
