The German Transfer Act (abbreviated ÜG ) of July 21, 1999 ( Federal Law Gazette I, p. 1642 ), which came into force on August 14, has inserted legal regulations on cashless payment transactions into the German Civil Code (BGB) .

There were regulations on:

  • the transfer agreement,
  • the payment contract and
  • created the giro contract.

The new Section 675a ​​of the German Civil Code (BGB) imposes information obligations (for example on fees ) on those who have made public commitments to conduct business, in particular credit institutions, for certain standard business transactions .

Art. 228 EGBGB was issued as a transitional provision.
