Majandusline praises

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The unofficially known as Majandusline rühm (German: economic group ) or briefly as Majandusrühm ( economic group ) was an interest party in Estonia in the interwar period.

History and program

Popularly known as the “economic group”, the political grouping was a small but relatively stable party in the young Estonian democracy of the 1920s and 1930s. From 1920 to 1934 she successfully participated in the elections to the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ) under different names .

The party was founded to represent the interests of homeowners (Estonian majaomanikud ). Their clientele turned against government-set compulsory rents and stood up for the rights of landlords. The party represented the principles of the free market economy, entrepreneurship and economic competition. She was fundamentally opposed to social interference by the state in society. In the course of its history, entrepreneurs, industrialists and merchants also joined the party in addition to homeowners.

The party maintained a stable approval rating under various names in all Estonian parliamentary elections. At the beginning of the 1930s there were several party and parliamentary groups merging in the Estonian political system. The Estonian People's Party ( Eesti Rahvaerakond ), the Christian People's Party ( Kristlik Rahvaerakond ) and the Estonian Labor Party ( Eesti Tööerakond ) united in 1931/32 to form the National Center Party. It was a typical center-right party in the party spectrum. It was joined on February 5, 1933 by the faction of "house owners, merchants, industrialists and other supporters of private property" ( Majaomanikud, kaupmehed, töösturid ja teised eraomandust pooldajad ).

The party's most important politicians were Oskar Rütli , Jaan Masing , Johan Sepp and Mihkel Pung . The popular economist and finance expert Pung became the first president of the Estonian central bank ( Eesti Pank ) in March 1919 . In 1931 he was Estonian Minister of Economic Affairs, the following year Estonian Foreign Minister. In the Cabinets Teemant II (July 1926 to March 1927) and Teemant III (March 1927 to December 1927) the party was a member of the Estonian government as a coalition partner.
