The “Red Terror” Martyrs' Memorial Museum ( Amharic የቀይ ሽብር ሰማዕታት መታሰቢያ ሙዚየም ) in Addis Ababa is a memorial to the victims of the Marxist Derg regime established in 2010 .

A military government had ruled Ethiopia since 1974 , which transformed the country into real socialism. With the support of the Soviet Union , attempts were made to maintain power through brutal repression. According to Amnesty International , several million Ethiopians fell victim to the Derg regime, mostly young intellectuals.

Various instruments of torture are on display in the museum, from leather whips and pincers to a model of the wofelala torture method . Original skulls and bones, coffins with bloody clothing and photographs of victims can also be seen.
