history

With the season of 1946 , the 1st league succeeded the 2nd division as the second highest division, while the 1st division was replaced by the National League .

From the 1952 season onwards , the first division formed the third highest division, as the National League B was an additional division below the top division renamed from Nationalliga to Nationalliga A.

On May 15, 1971, it was decided in Olten to forego the further implementation of a Swiss championship in field handball. The league operation was discontinued after the 1971 season.

The game was organized from the start by the handball committee (HBA) of the Swiss Federal Gymnastics Club, founded in 1939 .
