1000 hour glass

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1000-hour glass is a glass that is used in protective equipment such as welding shields or hoods to protect the eyes from flying sparks during welding , soldering or similar work ( e.g. in the area of blast furnaces ). A dark pane is usually attached behind it to protect the eyes from the glaring light and UV light.

The glass is provided with a special plastic layer that prevents sparks from burning into the glass.

The name 1000-hour glass is intended to express that it can be used considerably longer than a normal pane of glass, but such a front pane cannot be used for 1000 hours either.
