1000 Ways to Bite the Grass is a docu-soap on the US television channel Spike . The program is broadcast in German on DMAX . It covers unusual and bizarre deaths and the processes that led to the respective death. Some of the stories depicted have been nominated for the Darwin Award .

content

According to their own statement, 1000 Ways to Bite the Grass covers real events. However, some stories have been dramatically changed to increase the entertainment value of the show. Up to seven unusual deaths are usually treated per episode. In addition to simulated scenes and computer animations, experts from a wide variety of disciplines have their say, explaining the events and their deadly effects.

A frequently recurring motive is that the victim makes a wrong or mostly stupid decision and this then leads to the "deserved" death. In addition, the victims are usually portrayed as evil, greedy or stupid so that the viewer does not feel too much pity (polluter dies of his own poison; mean boss pretends to be in a wheelchair and falls into the elevator shaft; unfriendly stewardess is sucked out of the aircraft ). The whole program is accompanied by a comment that is not stingy with black humor and sometimes even appears quite cynical. Because violence, blood, vulgar language, illegal activities or even sexual acts are shown (albeit in a humorous way), the series was designed for viewers from the age of 14 in the USA (TV-14) and in Germany from the age of 16 ( FSK 16 ) Approved.

Until the end of the first season, the last story showed situations that should have led to death, but were still survived. In these survival cases, interviews were also conducted with witnesses or the victims themselves, a few of these survival cases were also shown in "Destroyed in Seconds" (also on DMAX).

Remarks

  • Each death is given a number and its own name. It is noticeable that the numbers of the deaths in the German series do not match the numbers in the original series.
  • Deaths with children as victims do not appear in the series.
  • The series contains some errors, for example a clamshell phone in 1993 and euro coins in 1978.
