14TP

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The name 14TP is the name of a Polish construction of a medium tank from the period immediately before the Second World War .

The specification leading to the development of this type was similar to that of the 10TP . The completion of the first prototype was planned for 1938, the start of series production for 1940. At the time of the German invasion of Poland in 1939 , two prototypes were still under construction and were destroyed when the German troops approached.

Similar to the 10TP , the slightly heavier 14TP was supposed to move on a Christie drive that was still unconventional at the time . The latter was not intended for this type in use. The tank should be of a 295 kW (400 hp) (Prototype I) and 370 kW (500 hp) (Prototype II) strong 8- and 12- cylinder - Maybach - motor are driven.

Together with the development of the 4TP , 7TP , 10TP and 20 / 25TP types , the 14TP formed the core of an ambitious Polish tank upgrade program in the late 1930s, which was delayed by a lack of production capacity and the outbreak of war was interrupted.
