14 mm Wänzl cartridges

The rimfire cartridge 14 × 33 mm R was the ammunition of the Austrian infantry rifle M1854 / 67. This rifle was developed by Franz Wänzl after the defeat in the Battle of Königgrätz as a breech-loading conversion of the M1854 muzzle-loading orderly rifles. Wänzl also designed the matching ammunition. Because of this, the cartridge is also known as a 14 mm Wänzl or 14 × 33 mm Wänzl .

variants

For target shooting, Wänzl rifles were converted to center fire ignition and a center fire version of the 14 × 33 mm R was produced for these from around 1885. These cartridges were manufactured until around 1935.
