The 1841 Goshen Courthouse is the former courthouse in the American town of Goshen in New York State . It was built in 1841 by the respected local architect Thornton Niven in the classical style in the center of the village. Niven designed the building as a twin to the courthouse in neighboring Newburgh , which at the time shared the administrative headquarters of Orange County with Goshen.
The building kept its function as a court until 1970, but for reasons of space it moved to the newly built Orange County Government Center . Today it houses the archive of the Orange County Genealogical Society.
In 1975 the construction was added to the National Register of Historic Places .
