2014 AA

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

2014 AA is the name of a small asteroid (2 to 3 m in diameter) that was discovered by Richard Kowalski on January 1, 2014 as part of the Catalina Sky Survey . After the report to the Minor Planet Center , it turned out when calculating the orbit parameters that the asteroid would likely enter the earth's atmosphere over the Atlantic in the early morning hours of January 2nd . This was only the second time (after 2008 TC 3 ) that a celestial body was only discovered shortly before its collision with the earth. Because of its small size, the small asteroid is likely to have burned out almost completely. The infrasound of the event could be recorded from three stations. From the data, Peter Brown from the University of Western Ontario determined the atmospheric entry at around 40 ° West and 12 ° North.
