Two Temple Place
Two Temple Place ( 2 Temple Place ) is a late Victorian mansion built between 1892 and 1895 in central London . It is also known as Astor House or Astor Estate Office after its builder William Waldorf Astor (1848-1919) . It is located near the Victoria Embankment and has significant exterior and interior jewelry.
history
The building was designed by John Loughborough Pearson , one of the leading neo-Gothic architects of the late 19th century, as Astor's real estate agency. Astor had emigrated to England in 1891 as one of the richest men in the United States; a year later work began on his office building. In addition to the extraordinarily opulent interior, which was completed in 1895, the largest vault in Europe and two other huge vaults were located in Two Temple Place .
use
The house is known for its architecture and interior design; including works of art by William Silver Frith , George Frampton RA, Nathaniel Hitch and Thomas Nicholls . On October 28, 2011, Two Temple Place opened as a public gallery. It is a London venue for public art exhibitions but is only open to the public during exhibitions. There is an exhibition shop in the building, which is open from January to April every year.
The Two Temple Place belongs to a registered charity ( The Bulldog Trust ) and serves as its headquarters. The building not only enables the charitable activities of the trust, but private leasing also supports the trust.
Two Temple Place is closed to the public except during exhibition times. Access outside of these times can be obtained through guided tours of the building, which are only organized for friends of the house.
The property is also home to the London address of the Institute for Statecraft .
