308th Infantry Division (Vietnam)

The 308th Infantry Division, also known as the Pioneer Division, was the first large division of the Vietnamese People's Army . The division was set up during the Indochina War .

history

The association was formed in January 1947 from the 88th Infantry Regiment and the 102nd Infantry Regiment recruited from Hanoi. In the course of the war, the division was subordinated to the 36th Infantry Regiment. The large association took part in most of the major operations during the war, including the Battle of Điện Biên Phủ and the Battle of Nà Sản .

During the Vietnam War , the division was used in the Battle of Khe Sanh and also took part in the battles in the context of the Battle of Quịng Trị , the 1972 Easter Offensive and the 1975 Spring Offensive .

In 1979, the division was reclassified as the first major unit of the People's Army to become a mechanized infantry division .

Today the division is part of the 1st Corps and is stationed in the Red River Delta .
