There is a residential building at 38-40 Sinclair Street in the Scottish city of Helensburgh . The building is located in the south of the city near Helensburgh Central Station, not far from the Firth of Clyde coast. In 1992 the building was included in the Scottish Monuments List in the highest category A.

history

Construction began in 1894. The renowned architects Honeyman and Keppie were responsible for the planning . Based on the design, it seems likely that the Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh, who was an employee of Honeyman and Keppie at the time, was involved in the planning . On the ground floor there are two shops in the house, which was opened in December 1895 and which were set up to finance the rental income. These served the use of the upper floor as club rooms for the Gareloch Conservative Club . There was also a reading and smoking room and a hall for public events on the first floor. Apartments can be found there today. A billiard room and the caretaker's premises were located in the attic. In 2010 the building was listed in the register of endangered listed buildings. During inspections, the potentially deteriorating condition of the two upper floors, which at that time had been uninhabited for several years, was mentioned in particular. The ground floor is used by shops and the overall risk to the building is classified as rather low.
