38th Symphony (Michael Haydn)

The Symphony No. 38 in F major Perger 30, MH 477, was composed by Michael Haydn in 1788.

To the music

Instrumentation: two oboes , two horns in F, C, 2 violins , viola , cello , double bass . To reinforce the bass voice, the bassoon and harpsichord (if available in the orchestra) were also used without a separate notation , although there are different opinions about the involvement of the harpsichord in the literature.
Performance time: approx. 9-10 minutes.

1st movement: Allegro molto

F major, 4/4 time, 170 bars
The movement is written in the form of a sonata without repeating the exposition. The 1st horn has some rather high notes in the recapitulation.

2nd movement: Andantino

C major, 3/4 time, 72 bars
Simply two-part form.

3rd movement: Finale: Allegro joking

F major, 2/4 time, 156 bars
The movement is a rondo.
