3dfx Voodoo Rush
The Voodoo Rush is a 2D / 3D graphics chipset introduced in 1997 by the former 3D specialist 3Dfx .
The Voodoo Rush chipset was introduced in 1997 as the successor to the extremely successful Voodoo Graphics chipset that appeared in 1996 . With this chipset, 3dfx tried to eliminate one of the main weaknesses of its predecessor - the lack of 2D functionality. For this purpose, the Voodoo Rush combined the Voodoo Graphics chipset with a separate 2D unit from another manufacturer - in addition to the ProMotion AT25 from Alliance Semiconductor , which was mainly used , the MX86251 from Macronix was also used , albeit in a much smaller number .
The Voodoo Rush had 4, 6 or 8 MB of EDO RAM , with 2 MB (for the 4 and 6 MB versions) or 4 MB (for the version with 8 MB memory) of which reserved as texture memory for the Voodoo Graphics the remaining memory was shared by both chipsets.

Due to the "forced marriage" of two chipsets, which were originally designed for single operation, and the associated technical hurdles, the Voodoo Rush lagged far behind expectations in terms of performance and behind the pure 3D variant Voodoo Graphics. In addition, cards with the ProMotion 2D chipset suffered from the comparatively poor 2D performance and quality. This prevented commercial success from the Voodoo Rush.
